How notifications work

Updated by Customer Support

Goal

Know when BoodleBox notifies you, where to find your notifications, and how to open the chat they're about.

What sends a notification

Right now, you get a notification when someone @mentions you in a chat. See How to mention someone in a chat.

More kinds of notifications, and settings to choose which ones you get, are coming in future releases.

Where notifications show up

Notifications show up in BoodleBox on desktop. BoodleBox doesn't email you about mentions.

Click the bell at the bottom of the left sidebar, just above your avatar. A number on the bell shows how many unread notifications you have. The bell shows your latest notifications. To see everything, click See all notifications. That opens the Notifications panel, where you can:

  • Filter by All, Unread or Mentions

  • Search your notifications

  • Mark all read

In a group assignment, a number on a chat's tab also shows your unread mentions there. Opening the tab clears them from the bell too.

What a notification shows

  • Who mentioned you

  • A preview of their message, up to two lines. Longer messages are truncated.

  • When they mentioned you, like "5 hours ago"

Open a notification

  1. Click the bell, or open See all notifications for the full list.

  2. Click anywhere on the notification to go to the chat. You can also open the notification's menu (the three dots) and choose Jump to chat.

If you were mentioned in a group assignment chat, the notification opens the assignment's submission page.

Good to know

  • There are no notification settings yet, so you can't turn mention notifications off.

  • If someone adds you to a chat when they mention you, that chat also shows up in your chat list.

Verify it's working

Ask a teammate to @mention you in a chat. The unread count on the bell should go up, and a new notification should appear in the panel.

Still stuck?

  • I didn't get a notification. Make sure the person picked your name from the @ list. Typing a name as plain text doesn't notify anyone.

  • I'm waiting for an email. Mentions don't send email. Click the bell in BoodleBox instead.
