Using knowledge sources for bot building

Goal

Choose and use the right documents to make your bot a reliable subject-matter expert.

Pick focused, high-quality sources

• Attach the documents your bot should be expert on — a syllabus, a style guide, a policy, a reference packet.
• Quality over quantity. A few clean, relevant files beat a large pile of loosely-related ones.
• Use supported file types within the limits (see Supported file types and size limits).

Put them in the right place

• A bot's Knowledge section makes that bot an expert on the files — they stay with the bot. (See How to attach knowledge to a bot.)
• The Knowledge Bank is your platform-wide library for files you want to reuse across many chats and bots.
• All uploads are encrypted end-to-end.

Good patterns

• Course bot: attach the syllabus + readings → a bot students can ask about the course.
• Policy assistant: attach the handbook → a bot that answers from official policy.
• Grading helper: attach the rubric → a bot that evaluates work against it.

Verify it's working

• Ask the bot a question answerable only from the source — it should answer from the document, not from general knowledge.
