Remixing Custom Bots

Goal

Share a bot as a template — and make a shared bot your own.

What Is Bot Remix?

Bot Remix lets a published custom bot work like a customizable template. When Remix is enabled, anyone with a link to the bot — including you — can duplicate it and tailor the copy for a new context: a different course, team, assignment, or workflow. The remixed copy is fully independent, so edits to it never affect the original bot.

You stay in control the entire time: Remix is off by default, you enable it only for the bots you choose, and you can turn it off again at any point.

Making Your Bot Remixable

Before a bot can be remixed, it must be published and have Remix turned on:

  1. Publish your bot. In the Bot Builder, click Publish once your bot is configured and tested. A confirmation window opens with your bot's shareable link.
  2. Enable 'Allow Remix.' Turn on the Allow Remix toggle for the bot. This makes it act as a template that others can duplicate.
  3. Share the link. Send the bot's link (box.boodle.ai/a/@YourBotName) by email, LMS, Slack, or social. You can retrieve the link anytime from the Custom Bot window (robot icon) or from the bot dropdown in the chat bar under 'Custom Bots.'

Creating Your Own Copy from a Shared Link

If someone sends you a link to a remixable bot, here's how to make it yours:

  1. Open the link. Click the shared link (box.boodle.ai/a/@BotName). Sign in to BoodleBox — or create a free account — so the copy can be saved to your account.
  2. Open the bot menu. On the bot's page, open the bot menu and select Remix.
  3. Get your editable copy. BoodleBox instantly creates your own copy with the original's instructions and configuration carried over. It appears with your custom bots (robot icon in the sidebar).
  4. Customize it. Open your copy in the Bot Builder and adjust the instructions, name, alias, greeting, profile, and model for your own context.
  5. Add your own knowledge files. Uploaded knowledge files do not transfer with a remix, so upload your own documents to the Knowledge section if your version needs them.
  6. Test, publish, and share. Use Test Bot to confirm it behaves as expected, then Publish. You'll get your own shareable link — and you can enable Allow Remix on your version, too.
