What is a Box?

Updated by bree.pear

Goal

Understand what a Box is, what goes in one, and when to use a Box instead of a regular chat or folder.

What a Box is

A Box is a shared space for a specific purpose: a course, a research lab, a grant, a team project. Everyone in the Box works from the same instructions and the same files, and each chat can draw on what's already been said in the Box's other chats. You set things up once, and nobody has to explain the project to the AI again.

Boxes is new, so it carries a Beta label in the main menu while we keep improving it.

What's in a Box

Box, chat or folder?

Use

When

A regular chat

A one-off question, or work that's just for you.

A folder

You want to sort your own chats. A folder doesn't share instructions or files with the chats in it.

A Box

A group is working toward one goal over time and every chat should know the same background.

Examples

  • A course team keeps the syllabus, the grading rubric and the course policies in one Box, so every chat drafting feedback or materials follows them.

  • A research lab keeps its safety SOP and protocols in a Box, so new lab members get consistent answers.

  • A grant team works through drafts in one Box, and each new chat can pick up what the team already decided.

  • A work team keeps a product launch in one Box, and can bring in a client or contractor by email.
