Accessibility at BoodleBox

Goal

Understand how BoodleBox approaches accessibility and find the guide that fits how you use it.

Our standard

Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA in both light and dark mode. That is the standard referenced by EN 301 549 for the European Accessibility Act and by the ADA Title II rule for public institutions.

Accessibility is built into our design system rather than fixed screen by screen. Colors, text sizes, spacing and focus styles come from shared settings designed to meet AA, so every new feature starts from an accessible base.

How we test

  • Automated testing. We run automated accessibility checks (axe-core) across the signed-in pages a student can reach, in light mode, dark mode and at phone width, including open dialogs and menus. The suite also walks through key flows with the keyboard alone.

  • Checks built into the code. Our build fails if a dialog has no accessible name or an icon-only button has no label.

  • Design system checks. Changes to our design system are tested for contrast, target size, text spacing, 320px reflow and visible focus.

What this covers

Our accessibility work covers BoodleBox's own interface. Some things are outside it:

  • AI responses. We control how replies are structured and announced, but not what a model writes. See Working with AI responses using assistive technology.

  • Files people upload. A shared document is only as accessible as the file itself. See Creating accessible content in BoodleBox.

  • Screens from other services, such as your school's sign-in page, payment checkout, embedded videos and the cookie banner.

  • Our sign-in, sign-up and verification code pages aren't yet part of our automated testing.
